Home cooked is always better

As a New Yorker the last five years, I can attest that there is nothing quiet like a NYC street pretzel. Growing up on trips to NYC I used to go downstairs from our hotel directly into Times Square with my dad and eat a dirty dog (hotdog) late night. Since going plant based I've said goodbye to my dogs but I can't quiet give up those pretzels. Instead I decide to opt into making them at home, fulfilling my cravings and using fresher organic ingredients and home cooked loving. Also this herbed butter glaze... II mean come on! Home cooked meals will always be better because you can control the ingredients and get to choose what you are putting into your body. Plus you are saving money, street pretzel sellers have 50% -60% profit margins even when selling them for $2-$3. Save money and make it that much sweeter because you worked for it. Next time you're craving that NYC salty cart pretzel, try this recipe instead!

Almond Carrot Top Pesto

Ingredients

Pretzel:
1 1/2 cup warm water
1 tbsp active dry yeast
1/4 cup brown sugar
3 1/2 cups of flour
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp coarse salt
1/4 cup baking soda
6 cups of water

Herbed Butter:
1/4 cup vegan butter
2 sprigs of fresh rosemary
6 sprigs of fresh thyme
4 sprigs of fresh tarragon

Preparation

1. Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast in a container, let sit for 10 minutes.
2. Pour yeast mixture into a bowl with the flour. Kneed until combined. Place dough into an oiled bowl, cover and let rise for 20 minutes.
3. Break dough into 10 balls, cover and let rise for another 45 minutes.
4. Roll out each ball until roughly 12 inches long. Twist the two ends and then fold over to form the pretzel shape.
5. Heat a pot of water and add baking soda creating a baking soda bath. Bring to a boil then dip pretzel into the water, letting cook for 30 seconds on each side.
6. Place onto an oiled baking sheet. Sprinkle with salt.
7. Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 minutes (depending on oven) until golden brown.
8. Heat butter on the stove, add in fresh herbs and stir for about 5 minutes. Spread pretzels with herbed butter glaze then enjoy.
